What I Started With

Back to A Peek At My Garden Page

We decided to move to this area because it was half way between my work area and our business in Carmel. Mary is remarkable in how she is able to get people to open up to her and tell her things others wouldn't find out. So she found out about this place and we moved in. In this picture you can see that the view of the distant mountains was blocked by 20' tall nasty shrubby weeds, immature oaks, and a dog run with 2 dog houses. The previous people planted cactus and literally added rocks in a line for what reason I don't know. Chain saw, sledge hammer, and metal saws demolished the mess. Our landlord helped us haul it away. I retained one small oak and shaped and window pruned it to look like a tree where the main shrubby mass was. We now had a great view! Here the cattle inspect the carnage. They must have been thinking this new gringo is major loco. The cattle helped by eating all the leaves off the huge piles of shrub mess. I think that made them like me. The view above is to the south towards Morgan Hill and Gilroy. As you can see, the oak was opened and took a severe beating. It is now quite handsome, much larger, and has good form. You can see the cattle feeding on the debris beyond the fence. I recommend you borrow some cattle if you are ever in the same position. They are kind of cute.
