KATHERINE van WORMER's Attack on President GW Bush
Back to the Democrap Hate Speech PageBob's Note: The initial date of this analysis of a hit piece by Dr. Wormer is January 8, 2005 and is taking several days to finish because of other time committments. In this widely reprinted attack piece by a PhD in Sociology we find a case of academic left-wing malpractice. Specifically, we find a non-medically trained sociologist practicing medicine without a license against a sitting president of the United States. Frankly, there's nothing wrong with criticizing the performance of politicians. What is wrong here is the supposition that Dr. Wormer makes that there is medically traceable brain damage that is causing some form of behavior that is going to endanger the United States. I've worked over 5 years in jails in nursing with MD's, PA's, NP's, Psychiatrists and Sociologists. All of us had varying opinions of politicians, told jokes about them and so forth. We speculated on what problems were wrong with them but we based it on the actions of the politician in question. None of us had access to any of the politician's medical records and speculating on a person's medical health is the province of people trained in the medical sciences, not sociologists.
As I've said in other parts of this website, GW Bush couldn't shine Ronald Reagan's shoes. However, the reason I've stated such is that he's made many domestic political decisions that really bothered me. His father did the same things and paid for them by losing to a sociopathic rapist Democrap and co-president: the control-freak who would be president. For some reason, Dr. Wormer couldn't find it in her brilliant mind to write anything nasty about Blow Job Clinton while she was busy counselling abused incarcerated women during that time. What is remarkable here is that Dr. Wormer could have done the nation a service by expounding on how Blow Job Clinton sexually harrassed several women and used his position of power over female subordinates while in the White House. Or Dr. Wormer could have made mention of how Juanita Broaderic, a Registered Nurse, was raped by the then attorney general Blow Job Clinton, of the state of Arkansas, and done a hit piece on that sociopathic behavior which has repeated itself over and over.
But such factual fare was not interesting to Dr. Wormer. Just a year and a half into the new president's term she writes a hit piece so full of holes that I'm absolutely astonished that it hasn't been demolished before on Internet Blogsites such as mine. Yet put Dr. Wormer's name into google.com and you'll come across about 6,290 hits and nobody's website really has a line by line analysis of her hit piece.
I'm not necessarily impressed when someone has a PhD in something. Some PhD's are asses. Some get them and feel the world owes them a living and great riches for their accomplishments. What a wake up call it is for so many of them when they find out their chosen field may REALLY offer wages and job opportunities below what they think they are worth. On Catalina Island two PhD's were friends of mine. One big friendly guy got his in history and couldn't find work so he was the garbage pickup man on the island for several years and loved his work. Another was Dr. Bob Givens who got his PhD defining Eusafid mouthparts and counting antennae segments on Bird Rock to define a new species of crustacean. He quit his USC Marine Lab job, bought the local donut shop in Avalon, and ran it until he retired. He was quite well known for trying to prevent a sewage treatment plant from being located on Catalina Island. The one in Los Angeles is famous for creating an oxygen free "dead zone" off that city and he didn't want the same thing to happen in the deep undersea canyons off of the island.
What must be galling to Dr. Wormer is that her most widely published literature is a bogus hit piece published by the likes of "The Smirking Chimp" and Michael Moore's propaganda site. She has bungled a worthwhile career counselling substance abusing inmates and battered women by dabbling in the passing fads of left-wing extremists. Crap like the stuff she wrote below will follow her for years in her profession. In this case she is prostituting her advanced degree to sell her nonsense to a gullible Democrap reader innocent of the fact that what she is saying is garbage. In other words, Dr. Wormer's technique in this article is to "baffle them with bullshit."
So here goes with my analysis of Dr. Wormer's display of how a PhD can be a bigoted stupid ass and sway thousands, perhaps millions, of non-critical readers of her hit piece. My comments will be in this arial, red font to make them obvious. Her's will remain in the standard Times New Roman font. I will emphasize Dr. Wormer's assinine statements with italics, bold font, and underlines to make them obvious before I dissect them.
October 11, 2002 Notice the date of this publishing. Sept. 11, 2001 was 9-11, this article was published barely 14 months after the most important attack on the US in history but she fails to mention that anywhere in her "anal-ysis" of the president. 9-11 was an act of war and the president was going about protecting the United States from further attacks but Dr. Wormer's attention deficit disorder didn't allow her to think clearly enough to consider that fact in this hit piece.
To bring relevance to Dr. Wormer's historical illiteracy, it was exactly October 10th, 2002 that President Bush thanked the leaders of both Houses of Congress for a resounding majority vote to use force against Iraq for violating over a dozen U.N. sanctions. There was nothing rushed about it, unless you consider letting a dictator execute over a half million of his own people since the Gulf War and cause nearly a million casualties, including thousands of children, in the insane 8 year war he picked with Iran, reasons to hesitate.
Addiction, Brain Damage and the President
"Dry Drunk" Syndrome and George W. Bush
by KATHERINE van WORMER
Ordinarily I would not use this term. But when I came across the article "Dry Drunk" - - Is Bush Making a Cry for Help? in American Politics Journal by Alan Bisbort, I was ready to concede, in the case of George W. Bush, the phrase may be quite apt.
Dry drunk is a slang term used by members and supporters of Alcoholics Anonymous and substance abuse counselors to describe the recovering alcoholic who is no longer drinking, one who is dry, but whose thinking is clouded. Such an individual is said to be dry but not truly sober. Such an individual tends to go to extremes.
It was when I started noticing the extreme language that colored President Bush's speeches that I began to wonder. First there were the terms-- "crusade" and "infinite justice" that were later withdrawn. Next came "evil doers," "axis of evil," and "regime change", terms that have almost become clichés in the mass media. Something about the polarized thinking and the obsessive repetition reminded me of many of the recovering alcoholics/addicts I had treated. (A point worth noting is that because of the connection between addiction and "stinking thinking," relapse prevention usually consists of work in the cognitive area).
Dr. Wormer's massing of emotion laden adjectives here indicates that she needs to use overkill to establish her point. What is also interesting here is her commenting on "obsessive repetition". Looking at her paragraph is a perfect example of "obsessive repetition". Considering her mastery of sociology, just where does one go to define "stinking thinking" and its connection to anything except her bigoted insinuations and smears aimed at a highly accomplished man. To the left is a picture of the young Leutenant GW Bush in his flight suit having mastered the F-102 jet, considered the most difficult to fly jet in that era's air force. He also put in a request to be sent to Viet Nam but his unit wasn't called up. This is the clear eyed young man that according to Dr. Wormer spent so much time drunk that he sustained permanent brain damage. Following this he graduated from Yale in 1968 and then got an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1975. After that he went into business and provided good paying jobs for lots of people for several years and also owned a sports team that he sold for a profit. He then ran and won and was reelected to the Governorship of Texas from 1995 to 2000.
Let's now examine the illustrious history of Dr. Wormer. She started as an English
teacher in Northern Ireland where she was active in the civil rights movement. Coming to the US she studied women in prison. According to a source she "In recent years, van Wormer, a peace activist and Quaker." Her books have included Social Work with Lesbians, Gays, and Bisexuals; Women and the Criminal Justice System; Counseling Female Offenders and Victims: A Strengths-Restorative Approach; Addiction Treatment: A Strengths Perspective; and Confronting Oppression, Restoring Justice: From Policy Analysis to Social Action. In an article she wrote on whistleblowing she related, "For whistleblowing to be successful, the violation of the law or professional ethics must be concrete and provable." Further she wrote, "Social work values stress human dignity and individual worth." In this article she violates her professional ethics by using terms and accusations that are neither concrete nor provable. In addition her article is aimed at destroying President GW Bush's human dignity and individual worth. Frankly comparing the two pictures one sees a happy well adjusted handsome young man on the way to greater things. And the smaller blurrier image is of a dowdy woman who wears bulky long sweaters and dull clothing to hide her self neglect of her body. Matronly would be a kind word for the stern but sloppy visage she projects in her few pictures on the Internet. She has worked for the government her entire career and has provided no employment for others. Indeed, her teaching Women's Studies prepares her students for precisely nothing an employer would be interested in save those looking for female employees with a chip on their shoulders.
Having worked with recovering alcoholics for years, I flinched at the single-mindedness and ego- and ethnocentricity in the President's speeches. (My husband likened his phraseology to the gardener character played by Peter Sellers in the movie, Being There). Since words are the tools, the representations, of thought, I wondered what Bush's choice of words said about where he was coming from. Or where we would be going.
The single mindedness and Dr. Wormer's concern about where we are going indicates her own paranoia coming through. Simply because she disagrees with his politics shouldn't be reason for her to express fear of the future. I believe that Dr. Wormer is a victim of her own paranoid thinking, ie: "if I think this way it must come from within me."
First, in this essay, we will look at the characteristics of the so-called "dry drunk;" then we will see if they apply to this individual, our president; and then we will review his drinking history for the record. What is the dry drunk syndrome? "Dry drunk" traits consist of:
- Exaggerated self-importance and pomposity
- Grandiose behavior
- A rigid, judgmental outlook
- Impatience
- Childish behavior
- Irresponsible behavior
- Irrational rationalization
- Projection
- Overreaction
Clearly, George W. Bush has all these traits except exaggerated self importance. He may be pompous, especially with regard to international dealings, but his actual importance hardly can be exaggerated.
In regards to the above sentence I suspect that Dr. Wormer is a highly controlling personality. Literally none of the bullet marked behaviors fit President GW Bush. Control freaks on the other hand operate from a center of extreme insecurity. They control others by keeping them off balance any way that they can. Lying, accusing falsely, and projecting their failing traits against others are standard methods of diminishing and smearing others to keep them off balance and to help their extreme insecurity be salved. In addition, she has sought out in her profession people who are not able to resist her, women weakened by despair and who are easily manipulated. Her frequent use of demeaning terms such as "stinking thinking", "dry drunk", and the bulleted list above with absolutely no documented proof: medical, historical, or by testimony shows that Dr. Wormer herself is exhibiting "Exaggerated self-importance and pomposity; A rigid, judgmental outlook; Irresponsible behavior; and "Exaggerated self-importance and pomposity". In other words, Dr. Wormer is exhibiting projection by which she is assigning her own traits to others.
His power, in fact, is such that if he collapses into paranoia, a large part of the world will collapse with him. Unfortunately, there are some indications of paranoia in statements such as the following: "We must be prepared to stop rogue states and their terrorist clients before they are able to threaten or use weapons of mass destruction against the United States and our allies and friends." The trait of projection is evidenced here as well, projection of the fact that we are ready to attack onto another nation which may not be so inclined.
Further in the above paragraph, Dr. Wormer uses the term "projection" in a sentence that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Let me copy it here to let you see her weird thinking: "projection of the fact that we are ready to attack onto another nation which may not be so inclined." What???? What in God's name does "ready to attack onto another nation which may not be so inclined" mean??? Imagine for a moment that Dr. Wormer is now General Wormer. She clearly sees that unless she acts her country is in for more destruction by the enemy. Saddam Insane would immediately capitalize on her indecision because he is not so inclined to be attacked again by the Great Satan and his Wormer the Worrier, Mother of All Projections.
This was excerpted from Dr. Wormer's article on another website on Suicide-Murder, Murder-Suicide, and Mass Terrorism: "The present grave situation requires our leaders to act so that more people are not won over to suicide in the service of terrorism. Otherwise, the cycle that goes from "America under Attack" to "America Strikes Back" to "America under Attack" will go on and on indefinitely." So what gives with Dr. Wormer? She says the "grave situation requires our leaders to act" and then smears and demeans him, and prostitutes her PhD to try to cut him down while telling him he's supposed to act. Frankly, Blow Job Clinton, the U.N., and the entire Left-wing extremist Democraps and media all believed Saddam Insane had WMD's. President Bush had just finished killing the Taliban in Afghanistan but Dr. Wormer worries "he collapses into paranoia" in her weird self analysis by projection. Rather, GW Bush demonstrated remarkable leadership, resolve and adaptability to defeat the enemy in an amazingly brief period.
That Dr. Wormer allowed this nonsense to be published indicates very poor self editing and reflects poorly on her scholarship in this subject.
Bush's rigid, judgmental outlook comes across in virtually all his speeches. To fight evil, Bush is ready to take on the world, in almost a Biblical sense. Consider his statement with reference to Israel: "Look my job isn't to try to nuance. I think moral clarity is important... this is evil versus good."
Look at the extremism in Dr. Wormer's characterizations. "Rigid, judgmental," "virtually all his speeches," "take on the world" and "Biblical sense" are all emotion laden words lumped together in just two sentences. The ridiculous claim she makes is easy to refute. The great bulk of GW's speeches are not published over the national news media. What is just as amazing is that Dr. Wormer believes the propaganda of the mainstream left-wing extremist media. The lying lefties, such as the bunch that got fired today at CBS, including Dan Rather, (today is January 11, 2005) only publish soundbites, and edit them severely to make GW sound bad. So Bush hating peace protestor Dr. Wormer uses this corrupt source as the "evidence" for her prostitution to the leftist-extremist fringe. It's a grossly distorted, psychiatrically bizarre three sentence parade of Dr. Wormer's hatred for GW Bush.
Bush's tendency to dichotomize reality is not on the Internet list above, but it should be, as this tendency to polarize is symptomatic of the classic addictive thinking pattern. I describe this thinking distortion in Addiction Treatment: A Strengths Perspective as either/or reasoning-- "either you are with us or against us." Oddly, Bush used those very words in his dealings with other nations. All-or-nothing thinking is a related mode of thinking commonly found in newly recovering alcoholics/addicts. Such a worldview traps people in a pattern of destructive behavior.
Here she misquotes GW when she wrote, "either you are with us or against us." He actually said that other nations are either in support of us or that they are in support of terrorists. Beyond this she uses the high sounding Maslow doctrine of the Dichotomies of Self Actualization without defining what they mean. And frankly, her use of this description is incorrect in its essence then to further earn her "F" on this paper when she leaps to the conclusion that Bush is trapped in a pattern of destructive behavior. Dr. Abraham Maslow, a psychologist, studied "self actualized", ie: successful people's common personality characteristics. Please visit the following page to trace the career of GW Bush in terms of his ages at attaining each of his goals on my page President GW Bush's Career: A Leader From the Start to come to your own conclusions as to whether he is a "self-actualized" man or not. It's my belief that at every step in his life he had an efficient perception of the reality of the situation, accepted himself and others as part of a team together, developed and maintained deep interpersonal relationships that are well known to have lasted his lifetime and was problem centered and creative in managing his responsibilities. Dr. Wormer's linked statement above, "Bush's tendency to dichotomize reality" , "should be, as this tendency to polarize is symptomatic of the classic addictive thinking pattern", "thinking commonly found in newly recovering alcoholics/addicts" is a classic method the left uses to try to apply negative stereotypes from some population and apply them to their target of personal destruction, in this case GW Bush. She then concludes that GW Bush is trapped in a pattern of destructive behavior.
It's my contention that Dr. Wormer, whose entire career has been associated with liberal academics, marching in peace parades, and working with despondent women made these choices based on her own personality needs. These choices indicate a preference to work with conflicted personalities often with unrealistic expectations of others and their country's situation as well.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs can be applied to her just as easily as she grossly misrepresents the life of GW Bush. This will continue to be discussed in this evaluation of her parade of ignorance on GW Bush.
Obsessive thought patterns are also pronounced in persons prone to addiction. There are organic reasons for this due to brain chemistry irregularities; messages in one part of the brain become stuck there. This leads to maddening repetition of thoughts. President Bush seems unduly focused on getting revenge on Saddam Hussein ("he tried to kill my Dad") leading the country and the world into war, accordingly.
First of all, Dr. Wormer is not a physician, nor a neuorbiologist, nor a brain researcher. In fact she has no medical training to substantiate her illiterate paragraph above. However, I do. And I worked over 5 years in a county jail and 35 years in nursing, including over 8 at UCLA working in all the ICU's and Research Units throughout the medical center. I have nearly 10 years of college behind me as well including various courses in psychology and sociology. So let's start by saying that Dr. Wormer's assertion that GW Bush has "organic reasons for this due to brain chemistry irregularities" is based on nothing but her own self exalted opinion of her knowledge. In other words, let's start by saying that the paragraph above is fraud and that the author is conceited about her self-worth. Here is Dr. Wormer's medical expertise on exhibit: "messages in one part of the brain become stuck there." "messages in one part of the brain become stuck there"???!!! WHAT AN UNMITIGATED ASS! THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT A CHILD WOULD SAY WHEN THEY ARE PLAYING DOCTOR, NOT A PhD, for God's Sake! Dr. Wormer's brilliant demonstration of medical knowledge continues with "This leads to maddening repetition of thoughts." So Dr. Wormer's explanation of brain physiology as it applies to GW Bush is that he has "obsessive thought patterns" because he was prone to addiction. This led him to have chemical brain "irregularities" (excuse me, I just can't resist-aren't irregularities solved with laxatives?) and that the neurochemical messages passing through the various sections of GW's brain "just got stuck" in a feedback loop of some kind and that he's demonstrated a maddening thought repetition all through his governorship and presidency.
Dr. Wormer, you are simply BRILLIANT! Golly-Gee-Whilikers I am just Gobsmacked by your medical knowledge!
In the last sentence above Dr. Wormer concludes that our lives are in danger because GW is "leading the country and the world into war". Uh, excuse me....didn't Saddam Insane of Iraq finance, train, and support Al Qaeda, have meetings with bin Laden, and celebrate when 3,000 of YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS DIED ON 9-11, Dr. Wormer? And besides that, Dr. Wormer, where did you get your geostrategic training? Where did you attend officer training school? In other words, peace activist/academic, JUST WHAT ARE YOUR CREDENTIALS TO SAY ANYTHING ABOUT 9-11? I am certain that your method of dealing with Saddam Insane and Osama bin Laden would be to get them together in one of your group therapy sessions and talk about their feelings that the United States caused their lives to be so sad, just like your unfortunate and emotionally challenged clients in jail, right?
By the way, Dr. Wormer, now that GW Bush has liberated 50 MILLION PEOPLE IN TWO COUNTRIES FROM MURDEROUS TYRANNICAL GOVERNMENTS are you going to lead a peace march to restore those regimes to power?
Grandiosity enters the picture as well. What Bush is proposing to Congress is not the right to attack on one country but a total shift in military policy: America would now have the right to take military action before the adversary even has the capacity to attack. This is in violation, of course, of international law as well as national precedent. How to explain this grandiose request? Jane Bryant Quinn provides the most commonly offered explanation in a recent Newsweek editorial, "Iraq: It's the Oil, Stupid." Many other opponents of the Bush doctrine similarly seek a rational motive behind the obsession over first, the war on terror and now, Iraq. I believe the explanation goes deeper than oil, that Bush's logic is being given too much credit; I believe his obsession is far more visceral.
Grandiosity...well here she goes again. Dr. Wormer in her second sentence says that Bush wants to attack any country he wants before they attack us. Let's turn that around and see if Dr. Wormer would agree with this. What gave Al Qaeda the right to attack American civilians before we attacked them? In other words, Dr. Wormer insists that GW Bush allow us to be attacked over and over again before he can use America's defenses to protect us.
Let's discuss grandiosity as related to the pastiche of stupidity in the above paragraph. Grandiosity implies that one has unreal beliefs in one's own abilities. Dr. Wormer believes that she has greater knowledge of international affairs than the President of the United States. Dr. Wormer believes that her judgements are more sound than GW Bush's because she disagrees with his position even though she is aware of what happened on 9-11. And what's more to support her position she uses the "me too" excuse because "Many other opponents of the Bush doctrine similarly seek a rational motive behind the obsession over first, the war on terror and now, Iraq." If "many other (unnamed) opponents" say something then I must be right because they agree with me.
Dr. Wormer concludes in the last sentence with a most grandiose statement: "I believe...Bush's logic is being given too much credit". So here first of all Dr. Wormer starts with "I believe" and then demeans the President's intelligence.
So here we have Dr. Wormer claiming to be completely superior to GW Bush in every sentence. She has better judgement, greater knowledge of international affairs, and lots of people think she's right. Besides that she puts herself in the position of knowing how intelligent the president is and finds the President of the United States lacking.
Dr. Wormer, exhibits the very worst form of grandiosity! First of all who is doing her daily "Threat Assessment" briefing that the President gets first thing every morning? What makes Dr. Wormer think she knows more than he does? Dr. Wormer's superior attitude without any foundation in fact or reality opens her up not only to being extremely grandiose but also exhibits delusions of grandeur as well. Delusions are fixed beliefs regardless of their conflict with reality. Her fixed belief that is that she is in a position to judge the President's intelligence; that is delusional. Dr. Wormer doesn't have access to his medical files or his intelligence tests. In addition she completely discounts the facts that 1. he flew an F-102, 2. he went to better schools than she did, and 3. he has accomplished far more in his life than she has.
In other words, Dr. Wormer is trying to protect her own damaged self image by viciously demeaning others to build herself up with grandiose lies.
On this very day, a peace protestor in Portland held up the sign, "Drunk on Power." This, I believe, is closer to the truth. The drive for power can be an unquenchable thirst, addictive in itself. Senator William Fulbright, in his popular bestseller of the 1960s, The Arrogance of Power, masterfully described the essence of power-hungry politics as the pursuit of power; this he conceived as an end in itself. "The causes and consequences of war may have more to do with pathology than with politics," he wrote, "more to do with irrational pressures of pride and pain than with rational calculation of advantage and profit."
Here Dr. Wormer implies that GW Bush is "Drunk on Power." Her source was a peace protestor holding up a sign. Now if I was holding up a sign that said, "Bush is a humble servant of his country" it's my belief that she wouldn't quote from me in her article. But let's forget the bias for right now. She makes it clear by implication that what is closer to the truth is that Bush has never been interested in what he could do for the country but only in the acquisition of power. She uses the old liberal apologist, Senator Fullbright as her source. It probably never occurred to her that William F. Buckley would very likely have provided the opposite view and far better logic than Fullbright but that's her choice, choose a left-wing extremist to back her opinion because he shared her views on life.
Another "dry drunk" trait is impatience. Bush is far from a patient man: "If we wait for threats to fully materialize," he said in a speech he gave at West Point, "we will have waited too long." Significantly, Bush only waited for the United Nations and for Congress to take up the matter of Iraq's disarmament with extreme reluctance.
To clarify what Dr. Wormer has said let's paraphrase it. To suit Dr. Wormer's worldview here is what Bush should have said that she would agree with: "it's never too long a wait to see if a threat will materialize." In other words, Bush would suit her idea of patience if he'd just wait until a threat materializes. Blow Job Clinton waited while Al Qaeda went on its merry way murdering Americans and citizens of other countries and let them take over and destroy Afghanistan. And then during the change of Clinton's administration to the GW Bush administration Blow Job and his co-president wife exhibited further patience by ransacking the White House, stealing the silverware and ashtrays out of Air Force One, and taking all the "W" keys off of all the computer keyboards in the govenment offices they occupied. But in the transition report Blow Job never mentioned the words "al qaeda" to GW Bush. So Dr. Wormer's version of patience was that 9-11 happened when the time was right. Nowhere in this article does she deal with the facts of terrorism. A fact of terrorism are that terrorists are hit and run cowards unwilling to attempt to work within civilized precepts of government. Another fact of terrorists is that when they establish themselves as the de facto government they obey one of my observations, "Peace Through Murder", ie; the population is sacrificed, freedom vanishes, and academics with superior attitudes like Dr. Wormer get bullets in the back of their brilliant heads. That is unless the leaders she worries GW Bush is impatient with didn't feed the brilliant academics into plastic shredding machines feet first while they videotaped them to view later at home in their leisure and laugh at the pain they caused their own citizens. But there's no reason to be impatient with a pleasant reasonable man like Saddam Insane and his gentlemen sons who with a paid mob found weddings going on, kidnapped the bride and spent the night raping her before giving her back to her new husband. No, Dr. Wormer wouldn't ever be impatient with such gentlemen.
But Dr. Wormer defines GW Bush as impatient and notes: "Significantly, Bush only waited for the United Nations and for Congress to take up the matter of Iraq's disarmament with extreme reluctance." GW Bush IS VERY PATIENT. Anyone dealing month after month, well over a YEAR (!) with corrupt murderous leaders in the U.N. "Security Council" band of dictators to attempt to assemble dozens of countries for the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq would get fed up. Among the greatest resistors were France, Germany and Russia who it turns out were making immense profits by subverting the "Oil for Food" program set up by the U.N. to make sure the population of Iraq could afford to buy food and medicines. Instead, Saddam built ALMOST TWO DOZEN palaces for him and his impatient sons costing nearly a billion dollars of Iraq's income while his people starved. In addition he went on a killing spree since the first Gulf War and hundreds of thousands of his own people were killed and buried in mass graves in the period between one Bush presidency and the next. And let's not forget the leader of the U.N., Kofi Annan, and his son and cronies literally stole over 21 BILLION DOLLARS FROM IRAQI BABIES MOUTHS then in December 2004 when a Tsunami wiped out the coastlines of a dozen mostly Moslem countries he didn't spend a cent of the money he stole from Iraq to help the millions of affected people. As a matter of fact he was away skiing and didn't even bother to come back for three days after the waves destroyed millions of people's lives. But impatient GW Bush had helicopters and two major naval battle groups on the scene in a few hours with dozens of tons of aid on the way even as the last waves retreated from the devastation.
How much patience do you think the families dying by whole village after whole village would have wanted GW Bush to exhibit. If Dr. Wormer had her way there would be no end to the patience and no end to the mass slaughter.
It's my considered opinion that Dr. Wormer exhibits IMMENSE IMPATIENCE and is morally compromised in projecting her inadequacies based on leftist mass-media distortions on hardworking and pious GW Bush.
Alan Bisbort argues that Bush possesses the characteristics of the "dry drunk" in terms of: his incoherence while speaking away from the script; his irritability with anyone (for example, Germany's Schröder) who dares disagree with him; and his dangerous obsessing about only one thing (Iraq) to the exclusion of all other things.
Please refer to Germany's Schröder in my comments immediately above. Schröder exhibited corruption in taking "Oil for Food" money meant for Iraqi citizens to buy food and medicines. Bush knew this and was indeed impatient with that jerk. Bush also knew that Schröder's citizens provided the equipment to make nerve gas and germ warfare agents to Saddam Insane as well.
As regards "Bush possesses the characteristics of the "dry drunk" in terms of: his incoherence while speaking away from the script" perhaps Mr. Bisbort would also feel the same way about people with other communication difficulties such as people who stutter secondary to brain diseases. Different people have different abilities. Bush has a lifetime history of trouble with speaking and has made great strides in improving his off the cuff talks. In other words, he is working hard on a problem he's dealt with for years and is making progress.
What GW Bush is NOT however is incoherent. He has personally written and delivered some brilliant speeches in the last few years which are in other sections of this website. Mr. Bisbort and Dr. Wormer show incredible malice towards someone who has worked very hard to improve on what he himself humorously talks about. Bush was dealing with this long before he became president. What is remarkable in their malicious treatment of GW Bush is that they absolutely fail to mention that public speaking is part of getting his degrees; incoherence would never be tolerated at the Masters academic level in GW Bush's education.
In other words, Dr. Wormer and her academic cronies are liars.
In short, George W. Bush seems to possess the traits characteristic of addictive persons who still have the thought patterns that accompany substance abuse. If we consult the latest scientific findings, we will discover that scientists can now observe changes that occur in the brain as a result of heavy alcohol and other drug abuse. Some of these changes may be permanent. Except in extreme cases, however, these cognitive impairments would not be obvious to most observers.
Let's examine Dr. Wormer's paragraph above with emphasis on her own clients as subjects. First of all lets dismiss the garbage "addictive persons who still have the thought patterns that accompany substance abuse". Here Dr. Wormer again exhibits a malicious smear by extending her thesis that GW Bush drank so much he sustained permanent brain damage to include "substance" abuse. So now she includes in the products she implies GW used such things as inhalents such as glue and paint sniffing, cocaine, heroin, marijuana and the panoply of recreational drugs available. Such speculation in a court of law is considered a tort and is an offense called libel and slander. She has absolutely no basis in any of her research to back this up, otherwise you can be absolutely certain that she would have widely trumpeted it five or six times by now in this trashy "Kitty Kelly" style smear article.
In the next sentence she grandiosly associates herself with scientists, unnamed and without article titles to make herself appear as an authority to be believed. "If we consult the latest scientific findings, we will discover that scientists can now observe changes that occur in the brain as a result of heavy alcohol and other drug abuse." First of all, who is "we"? And what latest scientific findings does she mean? Again she associates GW Bush with "other drug abuse" without any foundation and in the legal definition of slander.
Finally, showing Dr. Wormer's God-Complex she claims that only she, the enlightened elite one, could see "these cognitive impairments would not be obvious to most observers." Dr. Wormer has no medical credentials to place herself in this position. She may have conducted scientific surveys as related to her patient/client population but she is sorely lacking in the scientific disciplines involved with the practice of medicine and its related disciplines such as mine, nursing.
At this point it seems highly relevant to examine the client population of the female inmates Dr. Wormer works with routinely.
First of all, Dr. Wormer is a sociologist, not a PhD psychologist. Because of this lack of training in psychology her surveys and work with female inmates is relegated to non-theraputic interactions since this is the province of psycholgists and psych nurses.I have quite a bit of experience in this field, several years in fact, so let me describe her clients. Her clients usually have lived a very hard life and wound up in jail. Most of these girls started off life in abusive homes where education, nutrition and calm discussions were not the norm. Many of these women's parents exhibited the same traits that their progeny would later exhibit as they followed their family's unhealthy behaviors. As they matured these girls sought out young men who lived risk filled lives frequently involving drugs, promiscuity and violence. Most of these women got beaten and raped repeatedly yet stayed in their sick relationships despite this. Usually these women matured without marketable skills and had little money. Prostitution is common among this group. What money they made often is misspent so that nutrition is neglected in favor of mind altering alcohol and drugs such as cocaine which causes a variety of severe effects on health. A large percentage of Dr. Wormer's female inmates have histories of polydrug abuse including IV and "skin popping" usage. Many have histories of suicide attempts. Many that I've treated over the years are "carvers". These women are so seriously disturbed that pain is interpreted as pleasure and they will take any sharp instrument and cut symbols and lines into their non-dominant arm including power symbols such as swastikas and Wicken stars in circles. With these women suicide is not the goal, simply feeling anything is, and pain is as good as sex. When I'd get these women in jail receiving the first thing we did was to examine them and frequently treat them for lice and scabies. Commonly we had to give them enhanced diets, vitamins, and medications because they came in exhibiting a cachectic, that is, extremely thin and weak physical condition. We had to medicate the majority to prevent them from having seizures as they withdrew from a variety of drugs. The alcoholics had to be closely observed for delirium tremens, a condition which is often fatal, that occurs usually the second day they've been off alcohol. We instituted immediate treatment for their hallucinations, gave them water hourly for 48 hours and maintained them in camera/video observation cells to be alerted for possibly fatal heart attacks from long term protein malnutrition. After several months in jail these same girls were "buffed up" as we described them. They regained their lost feminine looks, became able to communicate, and could participate in group therapy to attempt to help them gain insight into their sad tortured lives. That was my daily patient load, along with other criminal types, for years.
Where Dr. Wormer displays profound ignorance are the causes of "these cognitive impairments would not be obvious to most observers." First of all, 20 years of drinking as she would have us believe meant constant, incapacitating use significantly impacting the subject's progress in life. The cognitive impairments she talks to frequently about are the result of significant multiyear protein malnutrition, not the simple use of alcohol. And the most common drugs that cause severe multiyear protein malnutrition are cocaine and methamphetamine, known as "Speed". Similar effects on patient's brains are produced in impoverished third world countries from Kwashiorkor in children. We've seen these pictures of children with bloated bellies and thin bony limbs. Even with an excellent nutritional intervention these children mature into mentally retarded adults to some extent or other. Malnutrition and drug abuse do indeed have significant lifelong medically traceable effects on people's brains.
However, Dr. Wormer is simply lying when she attempts to transfer the above mentioned conditions to the young GW Bush. If GW Bush was impaired in any way whatsoever how could he have mastered the least airworthy jet the military ever fielded? Even more remarkably if he was a nonstop drunk as Dr. Wormer implies why was it that Bush only had one single DUI in his life at 30 years old? Dr. Wormer further exhibits a profound misunderstanding of the dynamics of college life. GW Bush belonged to a fraternity. Everybody drinks to excess in fraternities. I personally lived on Strathmore and Landfair while attending and working at UCLA, that is, I lived on Frat Row and it was a riot, a nonstop party. You develop lifelong friends in these places. Alcohol by itself does not cause the great majority of kids in frats anything worse than a hangover to live through. These kids NEVER exhibit malnutrition. To the contrary, many were very concerned about their physiques to impress the girls. At these young ages drinking causes no lasting effects on the great bulk of the students. And generally these students follow the very same path that GW Bush did, they finished school, started a career, found the love of their lives, had children and a successful life. It is common among executives to mature to harder liquors and some continue to drink to excess but it is notable that GW Bush, according to Dr. Wormer's research has never been involved in a drunk driving accident which indicates that either her thesis that he was drinking 24/7 is garbage or that he accomplished things despite being constantly drunk.
GW Bush, according to Dr. Wormer's own research humbly confronted his problem and admitted it was affecting his life. This is a sign of maturity, not the calamity that throughout this text Dr. Wormer has tried very hard to create in the gullible mind. Dr. Wormer's use of Maslow's Doctrine is simply one gross distortion after another and exhibits a haughty disregard for the president's accomplishments and a slimy misuse of her academic credentials to lend weight to her hate speech.
To reach any conclusions we need of course to know Bush's personal history relevant to drinking/drug use. To this end I consulted several biographies. Yes, there was much drunkenness, years of binge drinking starting in college, at least one conviction for DUI in 1976 in Maine, and one arrest before that for a drunken episode involving theft of a Christmas wreath. According to J.D. Hatfield's book, Fortunate Son, Bush later explained:
"[A]lcohol began to compete with my energies....I'd lose focus." Although he once said he couldn't remember a day he hadn't had a drink, he added that he didn't believe he was "clinically alcoholic." Even his father, who had known for years that his son had a serious drinking problem, publicly proclaimed: "He was never an alcoholic. It's just he knows he can't hold his liquor."
Let me here and now state that Dr. Wormer just committed abject fraud and let me quote the source, the URL, and the information releveant here now.

clueless? (#12071)
by Richard Henry Morgan on May 12, 2003 at 4:33 PMThe author invokes a "syndrome" popular with Alcoholics Anonymous (not a medical body), that I've yet to see in the relevant DSM. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that score, and cite the page. The author is spared the problem of losing a medical license for diagnosing without actually interviewing a patient, simply on the grounds that she has no medical license. But the cluelessness (if that is what it is) does not end there. There is no J.D Hatfield. There is a former con who took the name JH Hatfield, and wrote the mentioned Fortunate Son. He made claims therein that his publisher (St Martin's) could not substantiate, his book was withdrawn from publication, only to be taken up by SoftSkull Press (the same people who revived Bellesiles' disgraced Arming America), and he proceeded to commit suicide -- and this is a source that Wormer cites.

http://archive.salon.com/politics/red/2001/07/20/blue/print.htmlFor a very interesting diversion you may wish to peruse the forum links following Dr. Wormer's lie filled abstract at the following link: http://hnn.us/articles/1434.html
Bush drank heavily for over 20 years until he made the decision to abstain at age 40. About this time he became a "born again Christian," going as usual from one extreme to the other. During an Oprah interview, Bush acknowledged that his wife had told him he needed to think about what he was doing. When asked in another interview about his reported drug use, he answered honestly, "I'm not going to talk about what I did 20 to 30 years ago."
Dr. Wormer's snotty comment, "About this time he became a "born again Christian," going as usual from one extreme to the other" would lead the gullible reader to presume that Dr. Wormer knows anything at all about what is usual for GW Bush. Frankly, considering she cites dead felons for her source in this article I surmise that her snottiness is part of her dismissive personality towards others. A frightening thought theraputically considering she teaches gullible students and works with abused incarcerated women. It also demonstates by implication that she considers GW Bush's sincerely acceptance of the Christian religion in some way less than laudible. What she has done in the past makes this articles "hit piece" style more remarkable is the valuable work Dr. Wormer produced in her study: "The Impact of Priest Sexual Abuse: Female Survivors Narratives." In this case she treated the survivors of the abuse sympathetically, the exact opposite of her dismissive attitude towards GW Bush. I realize that there may be interreligious rivalries between Quakers like Dr. Wormer and Christians but characterizing or linking "born again Christian" as going to an extreme shows extreme religious intolerance. Would she have printed something equally as rude if GW Bush suddenly converted to being a Quaker?
That there might be a tendency toward addiction in Bush's family is indicated in the recent arrests or criticism of his daughters for underage drinking and his niece for cocaine possession. Bush, of course, deserves credit for his realization that he can't drink moderately, and his decision today to abstain. The fact that he doesn't drink moderately, may be suggestive of an inability to handle alcohol. In any case, Bush has clearly gotten his life in order and is in good physical condition, careful to exercise and rest when he needs to do so. The fact that some residual effects from his earlier substance abuse, however slight, might cloud the U.S. President's thinking and judgment is frightening, however, in the context of the current global crisis.
Here Dr. Wormer finally warms up slightly from her glacially intolerant attitude regarding GW Bush but combines it with a low and snarky inclusion of his daughter's indiscretions during college. She then exhibits her ongoing personality trait of paranoia towards anything that GW Bush has done with "The fact that some residual effects from his earlier substance abuse, however slight, might cloud the U.S. President's thinking and judgment is frightening, however, in the context of the current global crisis." Typical of left-wing extremist Democraps anytime a Republican does something it's automatically classified a "global crisis." It's too damn bad that she had to join in with such scaredy cats yowling loudly about politics. Frankly, Dr. Wormer writes badly when it concerns politics but the above statement indicates she harbors a deep seated fear of current world events. It's a pathetic standard for a sociologist who should have a grounding in history to keep world events in their proper perspective. Frankly, I'd be deeply distrustful of Dr. Wormer's classes because of her paranoia and extremely bigoted view of politics which I would be certain inject themselves into her teachings.
One final consideration that might come into play in the foreign policy realm relates to Bush's history relevant to his father. The Bush biography reveals the story of a boy named for his father, sent to the exclusive private school in the East where his father's reputation as star athlete and later war hero were still remembered. The younger George's achievements were dwarfed in the school's memory of his father. Athletically he could not achieve his father's laurels, being smaller and perhaps less strong. His drinking bouts and lack of intellectual gifts held him back as well. He was popular and well liked, however. His military record was mediocre as compared to his father's as well. Bush entered the Texas National Guard. What he did there remains largely a mystery. There are reports of a lot of barhopping during this period. It would be only natural that Bush would want to prove himself today, that he would feel somewhat uncomfortable following, as before, in his father's footsteps. I mention these things because when you follow his speeches, Bush seems bent on a personal crusade. One motive is to avenge his father. Another seems to be to prove himself to his father. In fact, Bush seems to be trying somehow to achieve what his father failed to do - - to finish the job of the Gulf War, to get the "evildoer" Saddam.
What a lot of bigoted garbage. For more information on the war against Saddam Hussein and other aspects of the current political climate please follow the links at the top of this page back to the Freedom page and explore truthful information provided by some of the most brilliant writers of our age.
To summarize, George W. Bush manifests all the classic patterns of what alcoholics in recovery call "the dry drunk." His behavior is consistent with barely noticeable but meaningful brain damage brought on by years of heavy drinking and possible cocaine use. All the classic patterns of addictive thinking that are spelled out in my book are here:
the tendency to go to extremes (leading America into a massive 100 billion dollar strike-first war);
First strike? Really? Did Dr. Wormer forget that Saddam helped the Al Qaeda terrorists thus was an accomplice in 9-11?
- a "kill or be killed mentality;" the tunnel vision;
- "I" as opposed to "we" thinking;
- the black and white polarized thought processes (good versus evil, all or nothing thinking).
- His drive to finish his father's battles is of no small significance, psychologically.
If the public (and politicians) could only see what Fulbright noted as the pathology in the politics. One day, sadly, they will.
