When someone such as she has endured great emotional and physical pain, she emerges in a different form. The metamorphosis from a restrictive cocoon into the butterfly was inevitable for Mary "Papillon" Schatán. Coming into the light has had a profound, magical, almost mystical effect on her. The creative process is complex after so many experiences. And now these abstract expressions give her fulfillment.
About Portraits: Papillon's special style of impressionism is what her portraiture is all about. About Landscapes, Seascapes, Still Lifes and Florals: Here Papillon's style stands apart from the rest. These paintings are no ordinary genre. Since she believes there should be happiness and joy around you, she paints with passion, communicating with colors. About the Blue Lady, Red Cat© paintings: Papillon has planned for at least 300 original paintings in this narrative, whimsical series in acrylic. Each piece has approximately 6 to 10 layers of paint giving extraordinary depth and color intensity. This is a funny, comical series about Mary who is the Blue Lady and her husband Bob who is the mischievous Red Cat nicknamed Figaro. These are family paintings that include our pets the two goldfish, the bird, and visitors such as Elvis the Mouse and the Orange Cousins. Blue Lady's nudity is a metaphor for freedom and innocence. Papillon likes red hair and the blue color. The Red Cat is always getting into things and creating new adventures for them to go through.
