I'm glad I at least agree with your fundamental belief that if an idea can improve life, then it is probably a good idea. I am also glad that you didn't take what I said as offense, but of discussion fodder. So thanks for that, first off.

Socialism is big government, I'll agree with that. But it is big government based on its nature of allowing the people to be directly involved in their own government, instead of a more representative method.
My friend, let's understand something; the bigger that government gets the more it must take from you wallet to pay all those fat assed lazy jerks to run your life. If you believe that those government idiots will allow you to have any more of a say in what you think would be best for your own little piece of the pie YOU ARE OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY! Let me make it simple for you, just take half of your paycheck and send it to me. I can make far better use of it than any government beurocrat ever could.

I believe that the representative democracy that is practiced in our country is flawed in that it becomes very easy to allow somebody else to have near-complete control over your life, without really much of an input from you personally.
So what you are saying is that since our system isn't perfect that socialism is the answer? Churchill said it best, "This is a terrible form of government...except for all the other ones." You seem to think that if we don't have people electing committees to make decisions for individuals that those individuals will just fall on the floor and flail about whining "Please help me, I can't manage my own life!" GROW UP FOR GOD'S SAKE! If you really need someone to manage your life go to jail. I worked tonight in the Santa Cruz County Jail as a nurse. I make decisions daily that affect those people's lives intimately. They need this kind of management because they have problems making good decisions in their own lives. How would you like it if I was YOUR Socialist Government Supervisor: I'd come over to your place and spend all day micromanaging your life. You'd need my permission for everything. I'd have cameras all over and spy on you. I'd know your bank account numbers and make sure that you spent your money as I, your Socialist Supervisor, thought best FOR THE SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT. I'd learn the names of your friends and make sure that their committees know about you too. I'd put tracking devices in your automobile and watch your driving habits from satellites over head. If you ever sped you'd get an automatically generated ticket from the "Big Brother" (that is really it's name too-I think James Carville named it that) computer in the White House (this really exists too, Hillary Clinton paid with YOUR SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT'S tax dollars because she felt you needed to be supervised). And if you objected in any way I'd fine you and legally abscond with all your property. Since you are a Socialist though you believe that everything is owned by the government anyway. And if you resisted I'd call the committee overseeing your life and have them blow you away with advanced weapons just like in Waco! Hey Mike! Get a grip! That is Socialism as it's practiced all over the world and being promoted by the U.S. government right now! THAT'S WHAT IS IN STORE FOR YOU IF THE SOCIALISTS SUCCEED IN TAKING OVER AMERICA!

It is also easy for representatives to be corrupted. Chances are you have thought of this also, since you are for a more limited, smaller government. What are your views as to this potential for corruption in representative-style governments, of which a smaller government must be a part?
I infer that you think that Socialists are hard to corrupt? How about his holy majesty and liberal God on Earth Nelson Mandela? Jimmy Carter waged economic warfare on South Africa in the mid 70's and finally forced the country to do away with its apartheid system. Then we forced our national will on them to include the Socialist in the government structure. The Socialists did what they always do: made up lies about the Capitalist government and made false promises that their Socialist government would solve all their problems. And the SHEEPLE with a LEFTIST PRESS believed all the lies. And once the Socialists won a majority in the government they happily dismantled the laws that existed and fundamentally changed the structure of the country. One of the first of the new Socialists in power was Nelson's wife Winnie Mandela. Remember how she treated people who objected to her ideas? She hung flaming tires around the necks of her opponents and burned them to death. (Does that qualify as corruption?) Do you remember seeing the picture later of her kissing Jimmy Carter? He knew about it when she was smooching him! (Was Carter therefore corrupt?) Then Nelson Mandela gets out of jail. And right away his wife objects and tries to keep him from usurping her power. He divorces her and tosses her to her loyal subjects (Corrupt?). She had to flee the country. The U.S. SOCIALIST press get down on their knees and genuflect to Nelson and only report on the "WONDERFUL THINGS IN STORE FOR SOUTH AFRICA NOW THAT HE'S PRESIDENT!" Nothing bad was ever allowed to be printed in America or South Africa. This was partly because he started a campaign to destroy the independent press in South Africa. (Corrupt?) Editors of newspapers suddenly lost their jobs, they got blown up in their cars, their houses were torched. (Is that corrupt enough yet?) Great Nelson of the People! If you wrote anything else that's what you'd expect. Since Nelson Mandela has been president (for life) South Africa's economy went from the highest in Africa to among the lowest. Even in the shanty towns during the previous time they were relatively free from hunger and rampant crime and massacres were unknown. Socialism took over the government in the 1980's and became dominant in the early 90's. South Africa now has the world's highest rape rate. It is extremely unsafe to go out even in the daytime because of the rampant crime. Guns are banned so only criminals have them AND THEY HAD BEEN LEGAL BEFORE. The criminals have lots of guns, machine guns, and they use them indiscriminately and without fear of police justice because the courts have failed. IN EFFECT, THE ADVENT OF SOCIALISM ON SOUTH AFRICA HAS DESTROYED THE COUNTRY. Golly Gee Mike, if you think Socialism is so great go there and try it out.

I really must stress again my view that there has really never been a TRULY socialist government. There have been governments that have incorporated some semi-socialist ideas, but never really an opportunity for socialism to come to life.
Socialism will never exist because of human nature. You seem to rule out the way that people want to excel and bring home more slices of bacon for their own families. People strive to benefit THEMSELVES! They don't go to committees and plan how they will take care of society's problems. Amish women get together and work on exquisite quilts for their own benefit. Chefs and Doctors and Zoo Keepers and Writers all get together to solve problems just for themselves. And if you ask any of them about donating a chunk of their kitty to you so you can run out and spend it on your favorite lazy welfare recipient they will throw you out and call the cops on you. I know I would personally drop kick you off the end of a pier if you reached for my wallet and wanted to waste my money by giving it to one of your socialist committees to spend for me.

Let's talk about America's small government historically. America was run and conducted the war of independence without an income tax. There were no taxes on making sails for sailing ships. Nobody paid a cent of taxes for turkey dinners. Men went off to war and were paid in the coin of the day (which varied state by state) and not a penny was taken from their wages to benefit someone else. As a matter of fact, guess what? There were absolutely no taxes whatsoever! The entire conduct of government and warfare was based on tariffs on goods brought from overseas and private donations. People who came into government service did not receive huge paychecks and there was little incentive, if any, to make being a politician a career. Back in those days you had to give up time from your work to serve in the government. And the country was brilliantly educated as you can read from the letters sent higher and yon by "uneducated" folks who only went through the fourth grade in school on average. They read the great books, and they wrote in complete thought filled sentences that shame what you would wish the government could accomplish. Later in your e-mail you mention that the government should do more for education. That the government should do any more to education is patently ASININE! I don't know where you got your education or how old you are but this shows you are immensely ignorant of the gigantic failure of the SOCIALIST CONTROLLED education system here in the U.S. The results of the education are evident throughout the system. Here in Silicon Valley 50% of the HIGH PAYING jobs go to foreign educated immigrants. The locally educated kids for the most part can't read well enough to fill out job applications, balance a check book, or create complete thoughts that make sense to potential employers who are BEGGING for good workers. And also, the work ethic of these locally educated kids sucks. They were taught all about "SELF ESTEEM" in school but it is empty because 60% can't find North America on a map without labels!

The United States is certainly NOT socialist, although I see your point as to how taxation is a fairly liberal idea. The whole concept of taking a percentage of income for the benefit of many is a good one in my opinion.
TAXATION IS THE POWER TO DESTROY! No country has ever been taxed into prosperity. As a matter of fact, one of the reasons Rome fell was confiscatory taxes! The most prosperous days in the country would occur if the government was cut off from taxes altogether and run by the U.S. Constitution. Individuals making their own decisions are by far the most efficient in benefiting the masses of people. It is whenever government interferes with the free market and creates distortions that economies fail. Government interference is in the process of destroying the medical field. The distortions are creating shortages of care for the great majority of people. My wages are not what the should be. And as a result it is the most dangerous time to be a patient in a hospital since the 1930's prior to the development of antibiotics. A nursing shortage is developing that will dwarf all the pervious ones. People are choosing alternate careers in droves. Nobody in the medical field tells their children to follow in their footsteps anymore. Too much SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT PAPERWORK!

Where it all seems to go downhill, however, is when those that make the decision judge based on the wrong reasons, like corruption or ignorance. This seems fairly commonplace to me. But I don't think that this means that 'big government' makes it impossible to better people's lives. I really don't agree with you at all as to our government being socialist, and I am actually in favor of taxation of the wealthy to benefit the poor as an economic equalizer.
Then you are ignorant and part of the masses of sheeple and marching in lock step with the politically correct imbeciles from Hollywood. God, where do you come up with this trash? Tax the wealthy, tax the wealthy...DON'T YOU HAVE A BRAIN? Your job depends on someone's ability to write a check for you! If you take the money away from him and he can't pay you then what? Let's do a little bit of math. Two guys are mowing lawns in gardening businesses. One guy mows 5 lawns and goes home. The other guy figures out that if he mows 5 lawns and gets someone to work for him that also cuts another 5 lawns then he gets to take home some extra money and provide a job for a little less than he makes for another person. Now, the SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT comes along and notices that lawn mower guy #2 is making 1 and 1/2 times as much as the other. THE SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT WANTS TO BE AN ECONOMIC EQUALIZER (JUST LIKE JUSTICE MIKE THE SOCIALIST) SO IT TAXES HIM 1/3 OF HIS "EXCESS" PROFITS. Guess what? Now he doesn't have the money to pay his helper and the helper starves and his kids are forced into prostitution to make ends meet. You think I made this up? I didn't. It happened in Africa! Prostitution thrives in Socialist countries because of the "equalization" of incomes. When everyone is poor, everyone is equal. Prostitution makes money that is "off the record" and is also the primary reason that AIDS is rampant and destroying the less developed Socialist governed countries around the world. So, let's see Mike. You just destroyed the second lawn mower's incentive to excel and also his ability to hire others and benefit them with work. Oh, yes, the daughter gets AIDS and spreads it to more people and later on, after a long illness she'll die. Your stupid socialized medical system broke down too, didn't it? MIKE, GET A GRIP! IF EVERYONE WERE "EQUALIZED" BY THE GOVERNMENT IN THE UNITED STATES YOU WOULD LIVE IN A SOCIALIZED HELL! EVERYWHERE IT HAPPENS MILLIONS STARVE OR ARE MURDERED BY THEIR OWN GOVERNMENT!

This does not mean at all that I agree with the use of the capital collected. I'm not sure I understand why you equate talk show hosts with socialism, or why you make freedom an opposite of socialism.
Mike, the media is dominated by illiterate, suckup, incestuous, politically correct assholes that think there is nothing wrong with destroying the fabric of the civilization every way they can think up. Let's talk about Richard Dreyfuss for example. Did you know that he is actually, in real life, employing and paying money to a guy to inform him what is politically correct that moment in Hollywood? Or how about Oprah? She wouldn't put a class of 5th grade children from Colorado on television who raised money to free BLACK CHRISTIAN SLAVES in the Sudan when they and their teacher begged her to let them spread the word. Oprah, being black, could have made it an international cause celebre and perhaps made a difference in the policy of the U.S. towards those countries that enslave BLACK CHRISTIANS because they are not Moslem. But, instead, she went and made Amistad the movie about the horrible trauma of slavery in an America that she still thinks owes her an apology and in fact, no longer exists. What hypocrites! Talk show hosts talk garbage.

I also don't watch TV news, although I try to read two papers with opposite bias to get some idea of where the truth may be. Also, socialists certainly are not sheep, I hope that's not what you meant.
Yes, Socialists are sheep. They lack creative thinking and the confidence to go their own direction. Capitalists make their own way in life and don't need some brilliant committee of socialists to tell them how to live it. And you demonstrate it perfectly. You've bought into all their lies that you can't make it through your own life on your own. You have to be part of the sheep Mike. Bahhh! Bahhh! Maybe you'll learn the truth someday, grow a spine, and do some original thinking. But until then just go along with the herd. I agree that the talk-show mentality of some of the public is a real problem. But, like most such problems, education is one sure solution. It is my belief that education must be funded federally and allocated locally in order to enable a fair, equal, just education over the country. How do you feel about this issue?
Like you are one of the liberal know-it-alls who think our current educational system is just dandy! U.S. kids graduate at the academic bottom of the entire world, and they think that all the money that the government hands out just comes from the government and not MY WALLET! You know something else the National Education Association DICTATOR UNION says that is a lie? It is that smaller classes mean better education. Try this one on: South Korea has 45 to 50 students per classroom and spends in comparable dollars 1/3 to 1/2 less than we spend. It is a resource poor country too. THEIR STUDENTS ARE NUMBER ONE IN THE WORLD IN EDUCATION! The answer lies in discipline and parents considering that with a good education their children can excel. The best schools in the world are highly competitive. Our NEA Union teaches that competition is bad, socialism's equalizing, non-competitive attitude is good, and they don't even correct the kids math questions for fear of hurting the child's "Self Esteem". Great! America is a land of immigrants! Kids from countries that have poor opportunities come here in droves. Now kids that are valedictorians have Asian faces, no longer white ones. Kids from Viet Nam are poor, discriminated against, attend public schools, learn English in 3 to 4 months flat, teach their parents and siblings what they learn, and wind up being the doctors and nurses I work with.

I think maybe our fundamental disagreement is on the definition of what socialism is all about. So maybe we can start there? Can you describe to me what you think socialism is? That would be helpful. Here's another place I must disagree strongly with you again: I believe capitalism is quite in opposition to freedom. Capitalism strikes down many and elevates few.
GOOD LORD! Freedom IS capitalism you idiot! Capitalism is nothing more than each person making his life better and competing with the next guy for a piece of the prosperity. The more they compete the more goodies are created for others to benefit by. Competition is the essence of capitalism. SOCIALISM ON THE OTHER HAND IMPLIES THAT EVERYONE CAN BE MADE EQUAL. God, is implied in the Constitution when it says that "all men are created equal". God looks on us all as His children. Who taught you this crap? You didn't just make it up did you? The largest mass of entrepreneurs in world history is alive and competing in the overtaxed and overregulated middle class right in your backyard. Socialistic countries such as France, Germany, and England have unemployment rates that should frighten you. Right now France has an unemployment rate approaching 20 percent. In the worst of the U.S. great depression of the 1930's it was scarcely higher than that.

This is certainly not freedom to me.

No Mike, all men are not created equal. I already spoke to that issue. Your radical ideas don't hold a candle to the radical ideas I personally promoted in the past. I signed up large numbers of people and worked like hell to help the Rodgers Amendment pass on the California Constitution. This is the law that stopped the inheritance tax when one spouse dies and leaves the home and savings to the survivor. As a nurse at UCLA MED CENTER I saw case after case of little lovely old ladies made destitute by the inheritance tax. They literally had to sell their homes to pay it off and often lost half or more of the savings of a lifetime to the bloodsucking SOCIALIST BEUROCRATS! Then in despair they often would have heart attacks and come and see me in the hospital.

HEY MIKE, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH YOUR LIFE AS IMPORTANT AS SAVING THE LIVES OF PEOPLE VICTIMIZED BY GOVERNMENT "EQUALIZERS"? Read that as SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT EQUALIZERS!I personally have saved many lives in the course of my career. ARE YOU EQUAL TO ME?

I looked at both of these websites. What trashy thinking! I did better writing than that as a kid. In addition, the thinking is stunted by dogma. Thanks for the referrals. I'll add them to my website of stupid socialist ideas that are difficult to find the logic in.

I'm eager to hear more from you. Your webpage design, by the way, is great. It's easy to navigate, and very clear in structure. Nice job, and keep it up.

Also, I'm sorry if I sound full of myself in this letter. Whenever I talk ideology, my style seems to change to this kind of thing. Just bear with me.

There needs to be a mass movement to root out the whiny, nanny mentality socialists in education that take open minds like yours and pollute them destructively. You personally will benefit from MY WORK when your family members experience the tragedy of a death of a spouse. No socialist committee told me to donate the hours, money, and effort to do my part to help the Rodgers Amendment pass. ON THE CONTRARY, REDISTRIBUTIONIST SOCIALIST THINKING CAUSED THE PROBLEM. And for the huge number of people who have and will continue to benefit from it I will be unknown. I will never gain anything but satisfaction. I strived to help. I competed against the sickening beurocrats that took the life of many survivors by making them hopeless, homeless, destitute, and feeling that joining their loved one in death was the only way left the sickening socialist government tax raiders saw fit for them. I competed by working to pass the law that would stop this and it won. That is the American way. I used my freedom to compete and make YOUR WORLD a better place.
