It figures: The left-wing media establishment is downplaying and even ignoring sniper suspect John Allen Muhammad's pro-terrorist sympathies and ties to radical Islam, the anti-American left and Louis Farrakhan - and is trying to blame the U.S. military.
In reporting the filing of charges against Muhammad, the prominent British news service Reuters this evening never even mentioned the words "Islam," "Muslim," "Farrakhan" or "terrorism."
Instead Reuters' headline refered to him as "Ex-Soldier," the first paragraph called him a "former Army combat engineer," and the story noted he was "a a Gulf War veteran who was an expert Army marksman." OK, but why not tell the whole story?
An article this evening by the Associated Press, about Muhammad's appearance in court, was more balanced. It failed to mention Farrakhan and Nation of Islam, but it did note deep in the story: "Muhammad, a veteran of the Gulf War, converted to Islam, according to The Seattle Times. Malvo is a citizen of Jamaica. The Times quoted federal sources as saying the two had been known to speak sympathetically about the hijackers who attacked the World Trade Center and the Pentagon."
However, on the New York Times' Web site this evening, the two main stories about Muhammad failed to mention Islam, Muslims and Farrakhan.
Reuters and the Times and their ilk are still trying to pretend it's somehow just a coincidence that radical Muslims are culpable for most of the world's recent acts of terrorism, including the 9/11 atrocities, the attack on the USS Cole, the Bali bombings, the new hostage crisis in Moscow, ad nauseum.
Reuters, in fact, refuses even to refer to terrorists as terrorists.
Blame the U.S. Military
Fox News Channel this afternoon showed footage of a reporter asking Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld if the U.S. military felt responsible for the Washington-area shootings. His astonished reaction to the absurd question was priceless.
Another dimwit who acted like one of those inept anti-American reporters in a "Saturday Night Live" skit asked if Muhammad were "a black eye for the military." Imagine the uproar and condemnation if anyone asked if Muhammad were a black eye for Islam, Farrakhan, black Americans, etc.
