Hillary Tunes Up

No one who listened to Senator Clinton's speech to abortion rights supporters at Albany yesterday can have any doubt that she's running for president. In speaking about abortion previously, Mrs. Clinton has tended toward the combative. "There are a number of forces at work in our society that would try to turn back the clock and undermine a woman's right to choose," she said during her Senate campaign, "and we must remain vigilant." At a Washington rally last spring, she inveighed against Republicans who oppose abortion rights. Just two weeks ago, at a dinner sponsored by the International Women's Health Coalition, Mrs. Clinton attacked the Bush administration for undermining the reproductive rights of women worldwide.

But yesterday, before the 28th annual conference of the Family Planning Advocates of New York State, Mrs. Clinton sounded more like her husband, outpouring empathy for those who oppose abortion. "I, for one, respect those who believe with all their heart and conscience that there are no circumstances under which abortion should be available," she said. Instead of clashing, Mrs. Clinton said, advocates on both sides of the issue ought to unite on "common ground." Quoth she: "The fact is, the best way to reduce the number of abortions is to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies in the first place." The senator called abortion a "sad, even tragic choice to many, many women."

It's become increasingly clear that at least some Democratic leaders are waking up to the need to move their party away from an extreme position on abortion so as to reach out to the "values voters" who are said to have won President Bush the election. Mrs. Clinton was once an exemplar of the combative stance that alienates such voters, but she's now effecting a turnaround. The senator did criticize Mr. Bush on the abortion issue - but she did so from the right: "Unfortunately in the last few years, while we are engaged in ideological debate instead of one that uses facts and evidence and common sense, the rate of abortion is on the rise in some states," she said. "In the [first] three years since President Bush took office, eight states have seen an increase in abortion rates and four saw a decrease."

Mrs. Clinton contrasted this to the first three years of her husband's administration, when "we saw the rate of abortion consistently fall." Mrs. Clinton also said that religious faith was the primary reason that teenagers abstain from sexual intercourse, and therefore avoid unwanted pregnancy. These comments come on the heels of a speech she made Wednesday at a fund-raiser in Boston, in which she promoted the idea of faith-based solutions to social problems. According to a dispatch in the Boston Globe, Mrs. Clinton invoked God more than a half-dozen times. "I've always been a praying person," she told the crowd.

Indeed, said Mrs. Clinton, there has been a "false division" between faith based initiatives and the separation of church and state. "There is no contradiction between support for faith-based initiatives and upholding our constitutional principles," she said. Rather, the faithful must be allowed to "live out their faith in the public square." Attorney General-designate Gonzales couldn't have put it better. Not that we seek to mock the senator. On the contrary, there's something about having to run for office that can bring understanding, as happened to Mrs. Clinton after she kissed the wife of Yasser Arafat. Once she became a candidate, Mrs. Clinton was forced to meet with people who were able to steer her to a better position, and today she is a resolute supporter of Israel and a leader, within her party, in the war on terrorism.

As she seeks to make herself viable on a national scale, Mrs. Clinton has already staked out a position to the right of Mr. Bush on illegal immigration. In a November interview on Fox News, she said that she doesn't "think that we have protected our borders or our ports." She reiterated her stance last month. "I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants," she told ABC Radio, a position that wants for - how should we put it - nuance. She called for a new entry-and-exit system that would track immigrant workers. "People have to stop employing illegal immigrants," she said.

We have plenty of differences with Mrs. Clinton, but if all this can be taken as opening salvos of the 2008 president contest, terrific. It increases the pressure on the Republicans to deliver on their agenda. On Sunday at Palm Beach, Fla., Mrs. Clinton told the hundreds who gathered to hear her that "on both political and substantive grounds, my husband did it just right." In an ironic way, she seems to be running as an incumbent of sorts. She herself noted that she plans to copy her husband when it comes both to substance and to politics, and - though she didn't say this - what he was noted for was coopting the Republican agenda.

OK, I'll be the one to overstate the obvious. Anyone who shifts their stance so completely on such a long-embattled issue based merely on political expediency has no integrity - no moral fiber and cannot be trusted.
Oh, we're talking about PIAPS?
Never mind.

Common ground? Yes, and the terrorists really, really, really, really, really, really wish their captives would stay alive AFTER they cut off their captives' heads. Nothing like a little common ground.

Reply 9 - Posted by: rightguy, 1/25/2005 10:24:10 AM

Say what you will, but this witch is smart. She is actually going to run to the right of the pubs on some issues.

And this stand on abortion is totally disengenuous. I think PIAPS was actually drooling at one time about the prospect of partial birth abortions on demand. She and her ilk would legislate post-birth abortions if they could.

The office of Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY)requests that all persons or organizations possessing any records - video, audio, or writings of the Senator prior to 1/24/2005, please turn them in her office in NY.

It is well-known to the American People, especially those living in the 'Blue States' that records of the Senator reputed to be made prior to 1/24/2005 are, in fact, fakes and forgeries (CBS, take note) created by the VRWC, Swift Boat Veterans, Klansmen, homophobes, sexists, smokers, parents with obese choldren, and other Republican Party-Affiliated extremists dedicated to distorting the Senator's image should she decide to run for higher office in the future. Like if the sun sould decide to come up tomorrow. Persons possessing such records and not desiring to turn them in to the Senator's office may register their refusal by leaving name and address on the the Senator's office phone (Specialized Line) at 1-800-VINCEFOSTER.

She has no personality and is almost as depised as Bobby Kennedy. Only someone equally despised such as Newt could lose to her. Maybe Laura Bush could run for president in 08.

This new tactic of Hillary's is deviously brilliant.

However, it is a classic 'bait and switch' con game....

Elect the 'pious religious conservative' then the 'radical Machiavellian leftist' will govern (however...'rule' would be a more appropriate verb)

Buyer beware......

Has anyone but the brilliant Bob Tyrrell ever tracked how much real time she spends in her "home state." Bob's recent book, "Madame Hillary" further deconstructed "Senator" Clinton to be the hollow, corrupt, vicious, self-absorbed person that she is. Among his research was her abysmal attendance record at her Chappaqua "home", as in three overnights her first two years in squatting in the U.S. Senate.

Say what you will about Schumer, but he knows his home state, and is a frequent presence at various constiutent business and issue-oriented events. She is not, yet expects to leapfrog over her re-election bid into a Presidential nomination. She'd best assemble defense attorneys relative to Rosen giving her up during his campaign finance plea bargain.

"Common Ground" - 1)There is no 'common ground' between murdering a baby and not murdering a baby. They are binary, polar opposites. 2)The idea of 'common ground' with Islam is a joke. The enemy will settle for nothing less than 100% of the 'common ground'. 'Infidels have four choices: 1) Submit to Islam (not always your choice) 2) lose your life (never your choice) 3) Keep your life (not necessarily your choice) and pay a tax 4) flee (and await them catching up to you). There are *NO* other choices as viewed by THEIR rules.

Like I said yesterday, she's running, but good. In the last couple of weeks, she's

- for faith-based initiatives and prays a lot
- accused GW of causing abortions to rise because of goofed-up family planning
- says abortion proponents and foes should find some common ground.

Bill is coaching her well.

Sen. Clinton has made a wonderful first step suggestion to bring together both sides of a very divisive issue.

How about we have an immediate moritorium on all abortions while we find and discuss our common ground? I think we are at the stage where both sides can agree that partial birth abortions are barbaric and should be banned.

Please, oh please, someone ask her that at a news conference. Does she have those?

The best strategy is to absolutely ruin and destroy her for her Senate re-election, thereby limiting or eliminating her run in '08 for POTUS. Her tactics are so transparent they won't stand-up in the light of plain truth and her record. President Bush has got to enact some good long-term policies, foreign and domestic, which will solidfy the Repub base as well as draw a significant number of Dems away from her. These should be the Beast's pet issues just as Bubba did to the Repubs. The most important bases are the Blacks and Jews; the issues are health, kids and jobs. He is already well along on national safety.

As Dick Morris has pointed out numerous times, Hitlery is smart enough (heck, she learned at the feet of the master) to say whatever or portray herself in whatever manner it takes to get elected. The Hillary campaign will rise or fall to the extent her shady side is kept in the spotlights. If her dark underbelly is exposed, she will lose. If it is given a free pass - by timid Republicans - she could very well win. Dems will allow her any and all hypocrisies, triangulation and insincere posturing. They are all disingenuous anyway, and won't care if she is even more so. The trick will be not letting her proximity to (or participation in) crimes and scandals slip from the electorate's too-short attention span. On the issues, she'll be slick as can be. She can only be beat by exposing her true record of lies.

While we're at it let's worry about this one as well. According to some it seems that Orin Hatch is planning a consitutional amendment to allow the foreign born to run for president. An under-the-radar deal with democrats for support of this would be to get rid of the 22nd amendment which denigns more than two terms as president to a native born american - this to allow Bill Clinton to run again.

So if you are prone to Clinton Nightmares - there's more than one to suffer from.

In which states did the increase in the number of abortions occur? I'd like to know that.

Total flip-flop. Take notes everybody.

There are an awful lot of people who will not listen to any talk about Hillary's past. They have already made their minds up about her. They believe in her and they will vote for her, in droves. I have a couple of family members included in this pack. They are absolutely intractable. I am worried for the future. I am looking forward to a SwiftVet type expose of her highness. Unfortunately, like the SwiftVets, I do not believe it will sway her true believers.

AOL poll alert on PIAPS and abortion.

Keep the transcript of the Senate Debate on partial-birth abortion handy to show all those with short-term memories.

The Evil/Stupid One got her can handed to her by Rick Santorum.

You all saw what the Swift boaters did to Kerry so begin now a switf booters campaign to put Hillary right where she belongs.
As to any deals to change the Constitution just remember Kerry only carried about 18 states so where do you get ratification by 2/3.
Sorry Arnie it just isn't to be.
Some investi gating blogger needs to hike back about 7 years ago and look for the Hillary Abortion clinic connection----
silent partner. Now how much profit did she turn from the clinic selling parts.
Next take the journey into allegations she was involved with the leading man engaged in selling women and children for sex. After all the CEO of that business was photoed many times with Hill and Bill as he stayed in the white house.

Here’s what we all know and dread. While Hitlery is pure evil, the hidden group that really rules our nation has already consummated some sort of black deal with her and decided to appoint her as our next President. There is nothing we, the people, can do.

She’s got their OK to begin campaigning and is. Her path is unobstructed, and the path of her opponents will be poisoned at each turn. She can make ANY mistake normally fatal to anyone else, and it will be like she did nothing or even be transformed into a plus.

Every word or small “good” deed from her for the next 4 years will receive so much gloating-praise from the media it will make you literally sick. The propaganda will be such that within 3-years many "conservatives" will actually begin to love her. She’s a lock.

Only a miracle, like her untimely premature demise from this world can avert the detonation of this ticking WMD time-bomb. Start praying.

I don't know about all that conspiracy stuff you've thrown in there, but unfortunately, you are exactly right. Barring some unforeseen event, she will be president in 08. Women and many college age men will vote for her in droves. Given that the media was able to ignore a HUGE problem with Kerry's past and the fact that he'd never signed a 180--something no Repub could have gotten away with for 10 min.--the media will have no problem with Hilary. Piece of cake.

If hillary is smart, then kerry was a genius, for he changed his positions on many issues. hillary is a loser, and I agree that she will never be president of the USA.

I would never vote for a woman for the presidency.

We have a number waiting in the wings, to run for the presidency; Bill Frist for sure. I am also wondering if Asa Hutchinson will run, and Tom Ridge. I've heard in the past that both of them are interested in running for that office. And after the success W, and the Republican Revolution, there will be many that will run.

Let's not forget that the media has marginalized itself, threw caution to the wind and obfuscated to their hearts content about Kerry...look what happened to them. Until and unless some sort of mircle can be performed by the press in the next 4 years there will be nothing left of them to carry her forward. It was the media that has made her their darling and without them she is nothing.

The Bloggers will carry the day, they are like bull dogs with a bone and are to many of them and they are too varied to be controlled. Let's just keep a wary eye out and see how this PIAPS episode plays out. She is nothing without her scripted interviews and can be rattled very easily.

Bring it on, Madam of the West!

Four years is such a long time.
-She could be a felon by then, unable to run.
-The mainstream networks may be less influential, as cBS's decline shows.
-The NY Slimes, LA Slimes, Washington Compost, etc. may continue to lose subscribers and influence.
-The Internet and its ability to counter Liberal BS may continue to gain influence.
-She may lose her Senate seat.
-Another DimRat may beat her in the primaries.
-The WOT may still leave people thinking that its not safe enough to vote Dimorat.
-Bubba may get caught with another bimbo, reminding the whole country of the sleeze that the Klintoons brought to the WH.
And own, and own, and own...

"...She is nothing without her scripted interviews and can be rattled very easily.."

#79 has pinpointed a real weakness in PIAPS. Keep in mind as well that she has never had any serious competition. She could win the 'RAT nomination by default as Kerry did last year, but if the 'Pubbies apply some serious heat her vicious temper and grating personality will make themselves evident at inopportune times.

Of course, we need an appealing candidate to run against her in '08. Forget Guiliani or Frist or whoever. IMO Sen. George Allen (R-VA) would be a very good candidate.

That woman simply is not a human I'd ever invite home for supper with my family. In the most simple terms, she is not a person I have any respect for.

If the RATS want to see what a real liar looks like they have only to look at the hildebeast.

Reply 87 - Posted by: msjena, 1/26/2005 12:20:51 AM

Hillary would have to win one of Ohio or Florida or both Missouri and Iowa to get elected, assuming the other states don't change. I don't think she has a chance in either Florida or Missouri. Ohio is her best bet but I don't see where more votes are wrung out there for the Democrats. I agree that Obama is a likely pick as her running mate, but what, in the long run, does he add to the ticket? They may love him in California, New York and Illinois but the Democrats already have those states.

Reply 88 - Posted by: NickG, 1/26/2005 1:06:09 AM

Call Hillary Clinton anything you like (PIAPS, Hitlery, etc.), but precede her name with her proper title: "President-Elect" (or President-Designate to be exact).
