New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton revealed Thursday that she has not been tested for exposure to anthrax and is not taking Cipro or any other antibiotic.
At least a dozen senators and more than 2,000 Capitol Hill staffers had been tested for the dreaded disease through Thursday, after an aide to Sen. Tom Daschle opened an anthrax-laden envelope four days before.
A three-day dose of the anthrax antibiotic Cipro was given to all those taking the tests as they awaited the results.
But in an interview that ran Friday after being pre-empted the night before by an address by Vice President Dick Cheney, Sen. Clinton told Alan Colmes, of Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes," that she had not been tested for exposure to the disease.
COLMES: Have you been tested for anthrax?
CLINTON: No, I have not.
COLMES: And you're not taking any medication?
CLINTON: No, I'm not.
Senators who have acknowleged being tested for anthrax include Pennsylvania Republican Arlen Specter and Louisiana Democrat John Breaux. Presumably, Sens. Daschle and Russ Feingold have also been tested, since a number of their staffers have tested positive for exposure.
Sen. Clinton appeared on "Hannity & Colmes" on the condition that Sean Hannity, a conservative Clinton critic, would be prohibited from asking her any questions.
