Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002Barbra Streisand, the reigning Self-Important Grande Dame of Full-of-Herself, shot off a memo Sept. 25 to Congressman Dick Gephardt demanding the Democrats take the "offensive when it came to Republicans and the War on Terror.
Obviously, anyone can have their opinion about how things should be run in this country. We all certainly do, but we respect the serious nature and understand that this is not some hobby club meant to pass the time. It was Streisands bizarre misspellings in the memo that has, appropriately, made the news. I found it particularly revealing of the extraordinary depth of the womans incompetence.
Courtesy of ever-vigilant Matt Drudge, we all can take a look at the memo itself [http://www.drudgereportArchives.com/data/2002/09/27/20020927_105933_strei1.htm]. A cleaned-up version can be found on Streisands Web site [http://www.barbrastreisand.com/].
For Streisand, this debacle exposes how careless she is while having the gall to criticize those who wake up every morning with the weight of the world on their shoulders. This woman, who feels compelled to direct foreign policy, condemns the president and the administration for their work, while she doesnt even take the time to get names right.
Streisand, sitting pretty and comfy in her digs in Malibu, has a staff, and an office, and has one thing to do: dash off her policy thoughts to Congress, a silly melange of Leftist tripe. She also manages to misspell Gephardt (Gebhart), Saddam (Sadam), and al-Qaeda (Al Queda), the three principles in the letter and three names constantly in all news mediums: television, radio and print.
But thats not all her Web site also admits to the asinine mistake of having faxed the memo initially to the wrong fax number, a Republican office at the Capitol (maybe God is a Republican!).
Trooth Alert
Did her disastrous little foray into Important Things humble her? Of course not. Her Web site has a section called the "Truth Alert where she complains that focus on her spelling problems have distracted people from the "truth (or was that trooth?).
Im sure its all a Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy concocted to make her look self-obsessed, clueless, arrogant and sloppy. Or, of course, maybe she just is.
She even goes so far as to whine on her Web site that she was a spelling bee champion! One thing she doesnt explain is why Hillary Clinton allegedly banned her from the White House. Now that should be on a Truth Alert!
Lets get real the business of saving people from monsters belongs in the hands of people who know what theyre doing. Streisand is not among them.
The problem is someone as absurd as she has an impact simply because she is famous, and yet ironically, she is more removed from real life than anyone else. Politics for someone like her is a hobby, helping her to feel as though she isnt just the evenings entertainment, like any other circus sideshow.
People Who Need People
She doesnt feel important because she isnt. She is a success in the worlds second-oldest profession which isnt much removed from the first.
From her perch in Malibu, while wringing her hands about world affairs, she has called President Bush and Attorney General John Ashcroft, among others, "frightening. Well, gee, it seems as if Babs hasnt gotten out of the house much! I have a travel itinerary that just may broaden her perspective just a tad about who is really frightening, especially for Jews who arent rich, famous and living in Malibu.
First, Babs, go to Israel, right now. And travel like many other Jews forget the bodyguards and drivers, take the bus everywhere you go, and visit a few pizza parlors with young people who just want to enjoy life. Now who would you rather see jump onto the bus or run into the pizza parlor? A so-called Palestinian or John Ashcroft? Hmmm
Next, I betcha the people in southern Lebanon would love to see you. They probably havent had a concert by anyone decent in years. I think singing songs from the "Yentl" movie would excite them. Gosh, would you prefer George W. Bush in the front row, or a bunch of Muslim extremists? Hmmm
How about Cairo? Oh yeah, the Egyptians dont have a very good history with Jews, do they? How about Baghdad? Well, youd probably like that they think Dubya and Ashcroft are frightening, too! Youd at least have something in common, but stay away from the Kurdish region; I hear Saddams gas attack will start there first.
Of course, its not safe for Barbra Streisand to travel to any of these places, and shes not doing so because terrorists and mass murderers live there people who dream of, and act on, killing as many people (Jews and Americans) as possible. Yes, it must be nice to be in your own little world where you can pretend you know what youre doing.
Dictating Isn't Her Strength Either
When the cow pats hit the fan about the memo, La Streisand did what any other self-important narcissist would do when caught being an ass she blamed the memo and misspellings on an underling. It was also explained to us that the memo was "dictated over the phone at a time when both she had her assistant, Margery Tabankin, were "emotional about the issue.
Really? So, an underling was assigned this sensitive job, taking dictation from The Great One while needing to spell things phonetically. So, Streisands office is hiring the backward? Thats good to know. Maybe its an affirmative action-type thing.
I will try one more thing. Maybe Babs has ignored clear-thinking people for so long because we havent been communicating in the same language. So, here, let me give it a shot:
"Deer Barbara Stryzand: Regarding whirled peas. Uhmeerica wheel give Sadam the two KFC choyces: crispy or extra crispy, sew pleez stop senting memos to Gebhart. Go back to sinking and ackting. Two deel with the bad gize, the whirled kneeds peepul who no what their dewing. Yoo dont. Leaf us alown.
Keep your fingers crossed. Maybe she will finally understand.

**Exclusive**
First the spelling bee champion was tagged with sending a spelling error-ridden dispatch to the nation's leaders. Later the student of history was fooled by a fake Shakespeare internet hoax, but not before delivering a performance before thousands.
The stormy week in Malibu ends with a look at the financials...
Dissing Diva Barbra Streisand may be warning the nation about Vice President Dick Cheney and the evils of Republican big business interests, but a DRUDGE REPORT investigation can reveal:
Streisand bought and traded 800 shares of HALLIBURTON -- while Dick Cheney was its chief executive!
MORE
IRS tax returns show Streisand invested tens of thousands of dollars in Dick Cheney's HALLIBURTON.
Records show the HALLIBURTON stocks were purchased on April 21, 1999, while Cheney was the chief executive officer of the giant, one of the world's largest providers of products and services to the petroleum and energy industries.
The shares were sold eight months later for nearly $35,000, according the Schedule A form filed for the Barbra Streisand Foundation.
In her confidential memo to Capitol Hill last week, Streisand warned Democrats not to ignore "the obvious influence on the Bush Administration of such special interests as the oil industry, the chemical companies, the logging industry, the defense contractors" and others.
"Many of these industries, run by big Republican donors and insiders, clearly have much to gain if we go to war against Iraq," Streisand noted.
Streisand could not be reached for comment on the HALLIBURTON stock play.

STREISAND CALLS SADDAM 'IRANIAN'
XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX THUS OCT 16, 2002 18:00:31 ET XXXXX
It's been weeks of calm seas off PCH on the Barbra Streisand front, but the singeractressdirectoractivist has now issued a fresh "truth alert" to the world -- a truth alert calling Saddam Hussein Iranian!
MORE
In an alert posted as 'REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE ATTACKS BARBRA STREISAND IN ADS IN DESPERATE EFFORT TO CUT INTO CAROLYN McCARTHY LEAD,' Streisand takes issue with an ad run by congressional candidate Marilyn O'Grady in her run against Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY):
"A Republican/Conservative candidate trying with fading hopes to unseat respected Democratic Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy made a last-ditch effort to win headlines by devising ads in which she blatantly misquoted Barbra Streisand, fabricating outrageous quotes and completely misrepresenting Ms. Streisand's deep opposition to the Iranian dictator, Saddam Hussein..."
Where Iraq becomes Iran: Geography, not cinematography, is the latest Streisand glitch.
Timeline:
September: Streisand hit controversy when she faxed a spelling error-ridden memo to Rep. Dick Gephardt (D-MO) asking him to resist Bush's Iraq moves.
October: DRUDGE revelations that Streisand fell for an Internet hoax when she falsely attributed a quote to Shakespeare in an attempt to castigate Bush at a star-studded Democratic fundraising event in Hollywood.
Later it was learned that she had bought and traded 800 shares of HALLIBURTON -- while Dick Cheney was its chief executive.

(c)DRUDGE REPORT 2002Where is our Free Press?
by...Barbra Streisand
Posted on September 28, 2004
If you cross this administration you get your head handed to you. If you open your mouth and tell the truth like former White House Economic Advisor Lawrence Lindsay did when he told the Administration that the Iraqi war was going to cost between $100-$200 billion dollars, you get fired. If you disagree with the President, like Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill did one too many times regarding the President's policy on tax cuts, you get canned. If you claim that the Administration is misrepresenting the facts and misleading the public, like Former Ambassador Joseph Wilson did, your wife's career gets ruined when she gets outed as a CIA operative in the national media. If you tell the administration that several thousand more servicemen and women are needed in Iraq, like General Shinseki did, you get publicly scolded as being incorrect. And, if you choose to air a story about George Bush's military service, or lack thereof, like CBS did last week, you and your award winning news anchor, get investigated by the FCC.
So it's no wonder that the press has taken a backseat to reporting the misdeeds of this administration. It's not surprising that the press failed to ask the hard questions leading up to the war in Iraq, when a more informed public still had time to speak up. Never mind that CBS's story included substantive and uncontested evidence that Bush didn't show up for duty when he was supposed to, that he skipped a required physical that grounded him from flying, and that he mysteriously received an honorable discharge. Yes...the documents CBS presented could not be confirmed for their authenticity, but these details of Bush's military record have been out for public consumption for years. Why is the media not discussing the facts behind the story instead of just focusing on CBS? For example, Killian's secretary said those memos accurately reflected the Colonel's feelings. Ben Barnes, former lieutenant governor of Texas, admitted that he pulled strings to get Bush into the National Air Guard. And Robert Mintz, retired National Guardsman who served in Bush's unit in 1972, doesn't remember seeing him there. And in contrast to Senator John Kerry, who said "send me" when given the option to go to Vietnam, according to the LA Times, when asked the same question, Bush checked the box stating "do not volunteer for overseas." The media's attention is diverted from the real story because we now live in a time where the fear of revenge by this administration sends a chill through the corporations that control our media and overwhelms the press' responsibility to investigate, educate and hold our leaders accountable.
