Last week, NewsMax's Inside Cover report noted that the web site of former President Jimmy Carter (CarterCenter.org) had strangely listed the State of Israel as a nation of Europe.

At the time, we also noted that Carter's fierce criticism of Israel, coupled with his taking of tens of millions of dollars of Arab money for the Carter Center, may have colored his thinking about Israel.

As it turns out, many Arab world maps of the Mideast do not show Israel. Arabs have long argued that Israel is simply an extension of Europe.

Apparently the Carter Center took notice of thousands of e-mails sent by NewsMax readers questioning the listing of Israel as a European state.

This week, the Carter Center issued a statement via e-mail:

"The Carter Center would like to thank everyone who took the time to write in and make us aware of the design error on our website which has now been corrected as well as apologize for the confusion it caused. Please take a moment and review the corrected listing at www.cartercenter.org under the 'Activities by Country' header. Once again thank you for immediately bringing this to our attention."

The Carter Center, however, did not explain why Israel is the only country in its "Activities by Country" criticized for Human Rights abuses.

Carter has claimed to be a champion of human rights, but makes no mention of the subject for countries like North Korea, Libya, Syria, Iran, Iraq and many other repressive regimes.
